How Do We Fight This

After finding out the big lump in my tongue was squamous cell carcinoma instead of an ulcer you immediately start asking ok how do we fight this?

The answer to the tumor was let’s cut it out and see if chemotherapy and radiation are necessary and if so do what is recommended.

Dec 7 was the partial glossectomy where they removed the tumor from the tongue and lymph nodes. They were able to do a skin graft from my forearm to put in the place where the cancer had been in my tongue. I was shocked but blessed to find out it was stage 4 and cut away.

During my recommended radiation and chemotherapy treatments I started searching for any possible assistance.

I applied online to Vickie’s Angels Foundation very shortly after applying, during a chemotherapy treatment I  received a call from MICKEY he told me to remember his name like the mouse. He told me who he was and that he and the foundation are here to help. I was heartbroken to find out how and why he started the foundation but very blessed to have found Mickey and Vickie’s Angels Foundation.

He informed us that the VAF would discuss our situation at the meeting and figure out ways they could help. A follow up call was arranged for the next week.

My husband and I are cross country truck drivers and had been off work since September due to all the appointments that were made to help fight this.

We were literally using credit cards to pay for expenses. It was very scary since we had no income and all the bills kept coming.

The follow up call:
MICKEY and Vickie’s Angel called and wanted to help us pay for two car payments and 6 months of auto insurance as well as a gas card to help with appointments. They even sent contact information to me for someone who just went through the same type of cancer.

Words cannot describe how grateful we are for the kindness generosity and support we received. When you feel helpless hopeless and lost Mickey and the Vickie’s Angels Foundation were there to offer hope and love.

My husband and I are both blessed and honored to have received so much compassion and support from the foundation.

Thank you is not enough to say to repay them but that is all they wanted in return. It was completely mind blowing knowing that these people were all to happy and wanted to help.

I can’t wait to personally thank Mickey and Grace and the entire the foundation for helping me during this time.
